2011Number 3 for Melissa
Melissa Reid came from behind in the final round of the 2011 Open de Espana Feminino to edge to a 1 stroke win today at La Quinta in Benahavis, Spain.
Mel shot a final round 70 with perhaps her most important par of the tournament coming on the 18th. The blind approach and pin position for the final day had wreaked havoc on the field for much of the afternoon. And Mel’s closest competitor, Lee-Anne Pace was one of the victims of the final hole.
It was a great win for Mel, her 3rd on the Ladies European Tour, and should give her both confidence and momentum leading into this week’s Solheim Cup at Killeen Castle. Not a bad week actually, a win, a birthday, and her rookie appearance at the Solheim!
We’ve got some superb photos from the tournament and many of the competitors in our gallery here at DogLegMedia. And its a busy week ahead, as we’ll be covering both the Dinard Ladies Open (LET Access Series/Generali Ladies Tour) and the Solheim Cup (Ladies European Tour/LPGA).
